Academic Assistance Program Grant Recipient

California College of the Arts (CCA)

The goal of the California College of the Arts Center for Art and Public Life's (the Center) concentrated partnership with East Oakland School for the Arts (EOSA) is to work through the Center's Community Youth Development Project (CYDP) to expand postsecondary educational opportunities to Bay Area youth historically underrepresented at CCA through the following programs: Mentorship Program, Family University college workshops, and College Social and College Tours. The Mentorship Program engages CCA undergraduates and EOSA students through semester-long classes facilitating in depth relationships between students, raises youth awareness about opportunities in art and higher education, and creates community service opportunities for CCA students and participating youth. The Center contracts with the Oakland-based Marcus A. Foster Educational Institute (MAFEI) to realize the Family University workshops on college readiness. The goal of Family University is to expand and deepen parental and student involvement in education, developing relationships between families and schools for active engagement in their education, therefore increasing college readiness, academic and life long success. CCA and the Center are dedicated to supporting a college-going culture at EOSA.
