Treasurer Chiang Announces Los Angeles-Area Scholar Dollars Grant Award Winners

SACRAMENTO, Calif. –  State Treasurer John Chiang will announce the Los Angeles-area schools that have won Scholar Dollars grants to pay for critical after-school programs and extracurricular activities.

Scholar Dollars has proven immensely successful in its inaugural year, with more than 390 schools across the state registering and over 411,000 votes cast by parents, relatives, boosters and community members.

The grants will be used to fund exciting academic initiatives, from the expansion of arts and sciences programs to the construction of cutting-edge technology labs and state-of-the-art athletic facilities.

Friday at South Gate Middle School, the Treasurer will present checks to these eight schools:

  • South Gate Middle
  • Alfred B. Nobel Charter Middle
  • Thomas Starr King Middle School Film and Media Magnet
  • Stephen M. White Middle
  • Luther Burbank Middle
  • Judith F. Baca Arts Academy
  • Multnomah Street Elementary
  • Magnolia Science Academy 7

WHAT: Awarding of Scholar Dollars grants to eight Los Angeles-area schools. The grants will be used to help pay for extracurricular activities and after-school programs.
