SACRAMENTO – State Treasurer John Chiang today announced the appointment of Fabien Levy to serve as Director of Communications, effective immediately.

“Fabien brings with him a great depth of professional experience and I am pleased to have him join my team,” said Treasurer Chiang. “He distinguished himself as press secretary at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services during the launch of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), where he not only served Secretary Kathleen Sebelius directly, but was tasked with speaking with reporters and creating earned media events across the country on a daily basis. This experience will inform my office’s upcoming unveiling of highly-anticipated new programs aimed at fighting climate change, enhancing retirement security for millions of Californians, and providing people with disabilities with greater financial protections.”

Levy was deputy press secretary for Senator Barbara Boxer’s 2010 reelection to the U.S. Senate and deputy campaign manager for Senator Dianne Feinstein’s 2006 reelection to the U.S. Senate. In addition, he has served on a number of additional senate, congressional, and mayoral races, as well as on both of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaigns. Levy was also previously a communications director for a member of congress on Capitol Hill.

For the first six months of 2018, Levy served as deputy campaign manager and director of communications for Treasurer Chiang’s gubernatorial campaign.

“I’m honored to have this opportunity to serve both the people and the State of California” said Levy. “I look forward to working with Treasurer Chiang and everyone in the state treasurer’s office to further invest in affordable housing, green bonds, and the retirement security of every Californian — allowing California to continue to thrive as the world’s fifth largest economy.“

Levy is a graduate of Syracuse University, with a dual major in political science and broadcast journalism.
